Looking for America
Growing up in the suburbs of Houston, TX was an artist's hell. There was no originality, everything was cookie cutter of commercialism, and materialism. After high school, I hit the road looking for the real freedom of America and found it in a counter-cultural group called The Rainbow Family whom lived freely in different National Forest around the states. Their source of currency was trade and we worked together as a community to feed, entertain, and share skills. Through out this time, I carried around a 35mm camera capturing these moments of alternative ways of living. This early project "Looking for America," stemmed from my frustrations growing up in prosaic suburbia.
